About BMC

BMC for Porsche

BMC Air Filter is one of the worldwide leaders in the production of air filters and intake systems in the automotive sector, both road and racing. The company operates in both the aftermarket, thanks to a vast range of replacement Porsche air filters.

A Quick Look at BMC

BMC Air Filter information on this page is based on details supplied by the manufacturer or distributor, plus any OE references provided with the parts.

Choosing the Right Fit for Your Porsche

Where BMC is listed for Porsche, use the supplied model coverage and OE references to confirm suitability. Check details that commonly affect fitment such as model year, side/position, and connector type where relevant.

  • Typical reasons to replace: owners often fit BMC filters when refreshing clogged factory filters, or as part of mild tuning where consistent airflow and reliable filtration are desired.
  • Common symptoms of a problem: noticeably dirty filters, sluggish response, increased fuel use, or clear intake restriction — remembering that air leaks or sensor issues can also cause poor running.
  • Practical tips: many BMC filters are reusable, so follow the correct cleaning and oiling procedure, avoid over-oiling around MAF sensors, and make sure the airbox or housing seals properly.
  • Checks before chasing faults: inspect the filter and intake for leaks, ensure clamps and hoses are tight, and keep the system closed so unfiltered air cannot bypass the element.

Browse by Category

If you already know the area you are working on, start with the category and then filter by Porsche model. Where real-world symptoms and typical reasons to replace are provided, use them to keep the wording grounded.

Engine Tuning — Engine tuning parts are used where Porsche owners want to improve drivability, throttle response, or support other hardware changes; they are also chosen to help resolve flat spots and inconsistent running once underlying issues are fixed.

  • Before any tuning changes, check compression, fueling health, sensor data, and that there are no boost or vacuum leaks.
  • Do not rely on tuning alone to mask mechanical problems — fix the root cause first.

Air Filters — Air filters protect your Porsche engine from dust and debris while maintaining the correct airflow; BMC filters are typically chosen when replacing clogged standard elements or when owners want a reusable, performance-orientated option.

  • Match the filter to your usage and follow cleaning intervals more closely in dusty environments.
  • Avoid over-oiling reusable filters and always ensure the filter seats and seals correctly in the airbox.

Air Induction Kits — Induction kits alter the Porsche intake path for sharper response, a different intake sound, or to reduce restriction where the original system is a limitation, especially as part of a wider tuning package.

  • Pay attention to intake air temperatures and sensor placement so drivability and reliability are maintained.
  • Regularly inspect pipework, clamps, and heat shielding to prevent air leaks, heat soak, or water ingestion issues.

Service Parts — Service parts are replaced on schedule to keep Porsche engines running cleanly and efficiently; combining quality filters with correct oils, plugs, and other consumables helps preserve performance and reduce wear.

  • Use a clear service log to track when filters and related components were last changed.
  • If multiple small issues appear together (rough running, poor economy, hesitant response), returning the car to a solid service baseline often resolves several symptoms at once.

This Product Fits:
Porsche Boxster 986 / 986 S

Panel Filter Size:
- width - 178mm
- height - 244mm

BMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident.

DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Qualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability.
