About Michelin

Michelin for Porsche

In the UK, the Michelin Tyre Company Ltd was incorporated on 11 May 1905 and is now, more than one hundred years later, involved in many activities, including Porsche tyre production, from tyre industry training to economic development and publishing.

Choosing the Right Fit for Your Porsche

Where Michelin is listed for Porsche, use the supplied model coverage and OE references to confirm suitability. Check details that commonly affect fitment such as model year, side/position, and connector type where relevant.

  • Typical reasons to choose or replace Michelin Porsche tyres include improving steering precision, braking confidence, wet and dry grip, and overall refinement, especially when moving away from old, worn, or mismatched tyres.
  • Many apparent “tyre problems” on Porsche models are actually due to alignment, worn suspension components, or incorrect pressures, so it is worth checking geometry and suspension condition when fitting new Michelin tyres.
  • Common symptoms that prompt tyre replacement include inner-edge wear, tramlining on wider tyres, sidewall damage from potholes, vibration from imbalance, and noticeable loss of wet grip as tyres age.
  • Practical ownership tips include matching tyre types per axle at minimum, monitoring inner-shoulder wear regularly, and considering N-rated tyres where your Porsche handbook or requirements specify them.
  • For best stability and balance on performance and all-wheel-drive Porsches, replacing all four tyres together is ideal where practical, and a proper alignment check after fitting can help maximise tyre life.

If you already know the area you are working on, start with the category and then filter by Porsche model. Where real-world symptoms and typical reasons to replace are provided, use them to keep the wording grounded.

Tyres — Tyres in this category for Porsche are typically chosen to restore grip, braking performance, wet-weather safety, and predictable handling, with options to suit different driving styles and requirements where listed.

  • Replace tyres in axle pairs where possible and keep the same pattern side to side; check pressures regularly and consider an alignment check if you see uneven wear.

Clearance Tyres — Clearance tyres for Porsche focus on correct size, load and speed rating, allowing you to source suitable branded tyres from older or limited stock lines when fitment and specifications match your vehicle.

  • Always confirm tyre size, load/speed rating, and manufacture date, and aim for a matching axle pair to avoid mixed handling characteristics.

Classic 15" Tyres — Classic 15-inch tyres are aimed at older Porsche models, helping maintain period-correct appearance and the intended steering feel and ride compliance while improving safety by replacing aged rubber.

  • Check the DOT date code and inspect sidewalls closely for fine cracking; replacing classic tyres as a full set is often wise if they are all of similar age.

Wheels — Wheels for Porsche in this category are used to repair damage, refresh corroded or kerbed rims, or update styling and fitment, while supporting correct offset, brake clearance, and tyre compatibility.

  • Investigate steering shake or vibration for possible balance issues or buckled wheels, and always confirm width, offset (ET), and brake clearance before purchasing replacements or upgrades.

Special Offer Parts — Special offer parts often cover common Porsche wear items, making it easier to tackle scheduled maintenance or multiple related jobs at once without compromising on quality where applicable components are listed.

  • Confirm fitment carefully before ordering discounted items and consider grouping routine service and wear parts so you only need to carry out associated labour once.

185/70VR15 Michelin XWX was original equipment on the Porsche 911, Porsche 924, and the front of a De Tomaso Pantera and Maserati Merak. This is an extremely high quality performance tyre.

185/70R15 is a later low profile equivalent to a 165R15. It is often fitted to cars like Austin Healey, Triumph TR4, TR4 A, TR5, TR6, MGA, VW Beetle. Because the Michelin XWX is such an exceptional tyre it was the tyre of choice in the 70's and still offers excellent handling, especially if you are fitting the size 185/70-15 to a car that should have 165R15.

There is a variety of 165 VR 15 tyres available. We would suggest for the majority of sports cars the 165VR15 Michelin XAS. We don't believe that the handling of a car such as a TR6 or Porsche 365 could get any better than it would be fitted with a 165 VR 15 Michelin XAS
