Another element of the 964's importance is its ingenious rear suspension system, designed to provide controlled rear toe-altering geometry changes under braking and cornering. Key to this are the semi-flexible suspension spring plates, allowing rotation and yaw to the rear suspension arms. However, after decades of use, the original steel spring plates can oxidise after years of under-body exposure, and the encapsulated bushes and bearings wear due to split rubber seals and water/dust ingress, leading to unpredictable and imprecise handling.
