Piston Rings Set.
Restore effective cylinder sealing, compression, and oil control during an engine rebuild with this OE Match Piston Ring Set, available under references 00891184R and 00891186R. Designed for compatible engine applications, these piston rings fit into the machined grooves around each piston and create the critical sealing interface between the piston and cylinder wall.

Fits: Porsche 911 2.2L / 2.4L
Ring Size: 1.5 x 1.5 x 3.0
Number of CYL's: 6

This is the replacement ring set for Retro Performance 84mm (00891184E), (0089184S) (00891184PJE), (00891184EP), (00891184SP), (00891184JEP) and 86mm (00891186S), (00891186EJE), (00891186SJE), (00891186EPJE) and (00891186SPJE) Kits

Piston rings perform several essential functions within an internal combustion engine. The compression rings help contain the pressure generated during combustion, minimising the amount of combustion gas that escapes past the piston into the crankcase. The oil-control rings regulate the lubricating oil film on the cylinder walls, removing excess oil while retaining sufficient lubrication for smooth piston movement. The rings also assist with transferring heat from the pistons into the cylinder walls.

What This Product Does:
  • Creates an effective seal between the pistons and cylinder walls.
  • Helps retain combustion pressure within each cylinder.
  • Supports strong and consistent engine compression.
  • Reduces combustion gas leakage into the crankcase.
  • Helps minimise excessive engine blow-by.
  • Controls the lubricating oil film on the cylinder walls.
  • Helps prevent excessive engine oil from entering the combustion chambers.
  • Assists with transferring piston heat into the cylinder walls.
  • Supports efficient combustion and dependable engine performance.
  • Replaces worn, damaged, broken, seized, or sticking piston rings.
  • Provides an OE-style replacement for compatible engine rebuilds.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • Low or uneven cylinder compression.
  • Excessive engine oil consumption.
  • Blue or blue-grey smoke from the exhaust.
  • Excessive crankcase pressure or blow-by.
  • Reduced engine power or poor acceleration.
  • Increased exhaust emissions.
  • Oil-fouled spark plugs.
  • Carbon deposits within the combustion chambers.
  • Poor compression or leak-down test results.
  • Excessive oil entering the combustion chambers.
  • Broken, worn, seized, or damaged rings discovered during engine disassembly.
  • Excessive cylinder bore or piston ring-groove wear.

Why Replacement Matters:

  • Piston rings are essential for maintaining the cylinder seal required for efficient compression and combustion. When compression rings become worn, damaged, stuck, or lose their tension, combustion gases can escape past the pistons into the crankcase. This reduces cylinder sealing and may lead to lower compression, reduced engine performance, and excessive crankcase blow-by.
  • Worn oil-control rings can allow excessive lubricating oil to enter the combustion chambers. This can result in increased oil consumption, blue exhaust smoke, spark plug fouling, carbon deposits, and increased emissions. Continued operation with poor ring sealing may also accelerate wear of the pistons, cylinder walls, and other internal engine components.
  • Correct ring selection and installation are particularly important during an engine rebuild. Incorrect ring dimensions, excessive or insufficient ring end gaps, worn piston grooves, or an unsuitable cylinder surface finish can prevent new rings from bedding and sealing correctly. Insufficient ring end clearance can cause the ends to contact as operating temperatures increase, potentially resulting in broken rings, piston damage, or cylinder scoring.
  • Replacing worn or damaged components with the correct OE Match Piston Ring Set – 00891184R or 00891186R helps restore cylinder sealing, compression, oil control, and dependable engine performance when installed as part of a correctly measured and prepared engine rebuild.
