The door stop, also commonly referred to as a door check, door stay or door check strap, is fitted between the door and vehicle body. Its purpose is to control the door as it opens, limit excessive travel and provide defined holding positions so the door does not swing freely.
Every time the door is opened or closed, the door stop is subjected to mechanical load. Over years of use, its internal mechanism, pivot points and mounting areas can wear. This can result in clicking, cracking or popping noises, excessive door movement or a door that will no longer remain securely in an open position.
