Engine Crankcase Breather Gasket.
Maintain an effective seal within the engine's crankcase ventilation system with this OE Match Engine Crankcase Breather Gasket, reference 021115487. Designed for compatible engine applications, this gasket seals the joint between the crankcase breather assembly and its mating engine surface, helping prevent unwanted oil, vapour, and air leakage.

Fits:
Porsche 914 1970-76

The crankcase breather system manages pressure and gases that accumulate inside the crankcase during normal engine operation. A small amount of combustion gas can pass the piston rings and enter the crankcase as blow-by. The breather system allows these gases and pressure to be safely controlled rather than building up inside the engine.

What This Product Does:
  • Seals the crankcase breather assembly against its mating surface.
  • Helps prevent engine oil and oil mist from leaking around the breather.
  • Helps maintain correct crankcase ventilation.
  • Prevents unwanted air leakage through the breather mounting joint.
  • Supports effective management of crankcase pressure and blow-by gases.
  • Helps keep the exterior of the engine clean and free from oil contamination.
  • Provides a fresh seal whenever the breather assembly is removed for servicing.
  • Replaces a hardened, cracked, compressed, damaged, or leaking gasket.
  • Provides an OE-style replacement for compatible engine applications.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • Engine oil leaking around the crankcase breather assembly.
  • Oil staining or wetness around the breather mounting surface.
  • Oil mist accumulating around the top of the engine.
  • Burning-oil smells if leaked oil reaches hot engine components.
  • Dirt and debris collecting on oily areas around the breather.
  • Evidence of air leakage around the breather housing.
  • Increased oil contamination around nearby engine components.
  • A brittle, cracked, flattened, or damaged gasket during inspection.
  • Leakage appearing after removal and refitting of the breather assembly.

Why Replacement Matters:

  • A crankcase breather gasket must maintain an effective seal despite repeated heating and cooling cycles, exposure to engine oil, vibration, and age. Over time, gasket material can harden, shrink, flatten, or crack, reducing its ability to seal correctly.
  • Once the gasket begins leaking, engine oil or oil vapour can escape around the breather assembly. Even a relatively minor leak can coat surrounding components with oil, attract dirt, produce unpleasant smells, and make it more difficult to identify other engine leaks.
  • A compromised seal may also affect the crankcase ventilation system by allowing uncontrolled air leakage. Maintaining a correctly sealed breather assembly helps ensure that crankcase gases and pressure are managed through the intended ventilation path.
  • Replacing the gasket is particularly important whenever the breather assembly has been removed. Reusing an old compressed gasket can result in an unreliable seal and require the component to be dismantled again.
