Restore effective cylinder sealing, compression, and oil control during an engine rebuild with this OE Match Piston Ring Set, reference VW9000T4R. Designed for compatible VW engine applications, the piston rings fit around the pistons and form a critical sealing interface between each piston and the cylinder wall.
Fits:Porsche 914 1.7L
Ring size: 2.0 x 2.0 x 5.0.
Number of CYL's: 4
Piston rings perform several essential functions inside the engine. The compression rings help contain combustion pressure above the piston, reducing the amount of combustion gas that escapes into the crankcase. The oil-control rings regulate the lubricating oil film on the cylinder walls, removing excess oil while retaining sufficient lubrication for piston and cylinder operation. The rings also help transfer heat from the pistons into the cylinder walls.
What This Product Does:
- Creates a seal between the pistons and cylinder walls.
- Helps retain combustion pressure within the cylinders.
- Supports strong and consistent engine compression.
- Reduces combustion gas leakage into the crankcase.
- Controls the amount of lubricating oil remaining on the cylinder walls.
- Helps prevent excessive engine oil entering the combustion chambers.
- Assists with transferring piston heat into the cylinder walls.
- Supports efficient combustion and dependable engine performance.
- Replaces worn, damaged, broken, or sticking piston rings.
- Provides an OE-style replacement for compatible engine rebuilds.
Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
- Low or uneven cylinder compression.
- Excessive engine oil consumption.
- Blue or blue-grey smoke from the exhaust.
- Excessive crankcase pressure or blow-by.
- Reduced engine power or poor acceleration.
- Increased exhaust emissions.
- Oil-fouled spark plugs.
- Difficulty maintaining consistent engine performance.
- Poor compression or leak-down test results.
- Carbon deposits caused by excessive oil entering the combustion chamber.
- Broken, worn, seized, or damaged rings discovered during engine disassembly.
- Excessive cylinder or piston ring-groove wear.
Why Replacement Matters:
- Piston rings are essential for maintaining the seal required for efficient engine combustion. When the rings become worn, damaged, stuck, or lose their tension, combustion gases can escape past the pistons into the crankcase. This loss of sealing can reduce cylinder compression, decrease engine performance, and increase blow-by.
- Worn oil-control rings can also allow excessive lubricating oil into the combustion chambers. This may lead to increased oil consumption, blue exhaust smoke, spark plug fouling, carbon deposits, and increased emissions. Continued operation with poor ring sealing can contribute to further cylinder and piston wear.
- Correct installation is particularly important when replacing piston rings. Incorrect ring end gaps, damaged ring grooves, unsuitable cylinder surface finish, or installation into excessively worn cylinders can prevent new rings from sealing correctly and may cause premature failure.
