Shaft Seal.
Restore the integrity of your Porsche 911’s automatic transmission or differential with this genuine OEM shaft seal. Designed for 911 964 & 993 models with automatic gearbox, this precision seal prevents lubricant leakage and protects internal components from contamination.

Fits:
  • Porsche 964 (911) C2 1989-93
  • Porsche 964 (911) C4 1989-93
  • Porsche 993 (911) C2 1994-97
  • Porsche 993 (911) C4 1994-97

What This Product Does:

  • The shaft seal performs a critical function: it prevents the leakage of fluid (transmission fluid, gear oil or lubricant) from around a rotating shaft housing, while also preventing ingress of dirt, moisture or contaminants into the housing.
  • In a gearbox or differential application for the 993/964, the seal ensures that the automatic transmission / differential assembly stays properly lubricated, maintains correct fluid levels and keeps contamination out.
  • Proper sealing ensures reliable gearbox/differential life, prevents lubricant loss, avoids overheating or accelerated wear of internal components.

Symptoms & Signs Of Wear / When To Replace:
  • Visible fluid leakage around the shaft housing area or gearbox/differential case: oil/gear-oil seeping or pooling near the area where the seal sits.
  • Low gearbox or differential fluid level during inspections or the need to top up frequently — a worn seal may allow persistent leakage.
  • Unusual noise or vibration from the differential/gearbox area — due to lubricant loss or contamination ingress causing increased wear.
  • Cracked, hardened or damaged seal lip if visible during inspection (though many seals are internal). Age-related hardening or swelling of the seal material is a concern.
  • When doing major transmission/differential service: If disassembling gearbox or differential and replacing bearings, shafts, etc., it’s often prudent to replace the seal at the same time due to age or service life.

Why Replacement Matters:
  • Preserves gearbox/differential reliability: A faulty seal can cause lubricant loss and subsequent damage to bearings, gears or internal components; preventing this saves major repair cost.
  • Prevents contamination: Preventing ingress of dirt, water or foreign material through a bad seal protects internal mechanical precision and longevity.
  • Pre-emptive maintenance: On older vehicles, seals degrade with age, heat and time. Replacing a suspect seal while condition allows can avoid a catastrophic failure down the line.
