What This Product Does:

  • The pipe directs coolant (engine coolant / water mixture) through the cooling system, often routing it through or around a transmission/automatic-gearbox oil cooler in vehicles with Tiptronic/automatic transmissions.
  • It helps regulate fluid temperature (coolant & possibly transmission oil) by providing proper coolant flow in the rear-engine bay area.
  • Maintaining correct coolant flow through this pipe ensures the engine/transmission oil cooler stays effective, temperatures remain controlled, and the vehicle’s cooling system functions safely.

Symptoms Of Wear, Damage Or Replacement Need:
  • Coolant leaks or drips in the rear of the engine bay where this pipe is located—looking for coolant residue, wetness, corrosion around the pipe connections.
  • Reduced cooling performance: If coolant isn’t flowing properly (for example if the pipe is cracked, collapsed internally or blocked), you might see higher than normal engine or transmission oil temperatures, especially under heavy load or sustained driving.
  • Visible damage, cracks, splits or heat/rubber deterioration (if part of the pipe has rubber sections or is routed near hot components) — Because rear-engine compartments get hot, pipes near the automatic trans oil cooler are subject to thermal/age stress.
  • During servicing: If you are already removing parts of the cooling system, oil cooler, or automatic transmission heat exchanger, and you notice the pipe is old, brittle or worn—replacing it while access is available prevents future failure.

Why Replacement Matters:
  • Cooling system integrity: This pipe is part of the critical route for coolant (and possibly transmission oil cooling). A failure or leak can reduce the cooler’s effectiveness, leading to elevated temperatures and increased wear or damage to the transmission or engine.
  • Prevention of bigger failures: A leaking or collapsed pipe may lead to coolant loss, cross-contamination, or overheating—which are much more serious and expensive to fix than replacing the pipe itself.
