What This Product Does:
- In a torsion-bar rear suspension design (used on these Porsche models), the spring plate is the mount at which the torsion bar ends and transmits spring load into the chassis/suspension mount. The bushings and plate determine how well the torsion bar is anchored, how consistent ride height is, and how the rear axle reacts under load.
- An adjustable spring plate adds the ability to fine-tune ride height and torsion bar preload (via indexing) without extensive disassembly. That means you can more easily correct for lowering, increased spring rate, or varying loads.
- Good spring plates help maintain consistent rear geometry (camber, toe), correct ride height, minimal unwanted movement and crisp behaviour under load (cornering, acceleration, braking).
Symptoms & Signs Of Wear / When You Need To Replace Or Upgrade:
- Rear ride height is inconsistent, one side sits lower/higher, or you cannot achieve correct ride height despite adjusting torsion bar indexing.
- Rear suspension feels vague, “loose” in corners, or the car doesn’t handle the rear end with precision — the torsion bar mount may be worn or deflecting.
- Uneven or accelerated tyre wear on rear tyres (especially inner/outer shoulders) due to shifting geometry under load.
- When lowering the car or upgrading suspension, you cannot set ride height or preload easily because you are limited by fixed plates. An adjustable version reduces that limitation.
- Visual signs of degradation: bushings in the spring plate may be cracked, collapsed or show metal-to-metal contact; the plate may show corrosion, wear marks or may be the non-adjustable version but you’d prefer adjustability.
Why Replacement / Upgrade Matters:
- For road use, upgrading to an adjustable set means your rear suspension is easier to tune, more consistent, and likely to hold its geometry better.
- If you’ve modified your car (lowered, stiffer springs, wider tyres, track use), the factory non-adjustable plates become a weak link — the upgrade ensures the rest of the suspension upgrades perform as intended.
- A well-mounted spring plate reduces unwanted movement, improves ride height accuracy, and improves stability and tyre life.
- Replacing old or worn spring plates renews the rear suspension foundation — this is especially valuable in cars of this era, where wear and age may have compromised original components.
- From a resale/restoration perspective: an adjustable plate set signals that you’ve invested in chassis tuning and correct mounting hardware.
