Tensioner Kit Oil Feed Pipe for Early Engines

OE Match camshaft oil feed pipe for early Porsche 911 engines converted to pressure-fed hydraulic timing chain tensioners.

Fits:

  • Porsche 911 1965-1968 2.0L / 912 SWB (F)
  • Porsche 911 1968-1973 2.2L / 2.4L / 2.7L RS LWB (F)

This additional oil pipe is required when carrying out the hydraulic chain tensioner upgrade on early engines smaller than 2.7 litres, including 2.2L and 2.4L applications. It forms part of the modified engine lubrication circuit, supplying pressurised engine oil to the upgraded timing chain tensioner system.

What Does the Tensioner Oil Feed Pipe Do?

Early Porsche 911 engines originally used a different timing chain tensioner arrangement. When upgrading to the later pressure-fed hydraulic tensioners, engine oil must be routed to the new tensioner system.

This pipe provides the additional oil connection required on early engines, allowing pressurised engine oil to reach the upgraded chain tensioners and help them maintain correct timing chain tension.

Why Is It Required?

The commonly used hydraulic chain tensioner upgrade was designed around later Porsche 911 engine lubrication arrangements.

On early engines below 2.7 litres, including 2.2L and 2.4L engines, an additional 930107348XX pipe is required when installing the later tensioner system.

Without the correct oil feed arrangement, the pressure-fed tensioners cannot operate as intended.

Why Do Oil Feed Pipes Need Replacing?

Oil feed lines operate in a hot, vibration-prone engine environment and can deteriorate with age.

Potential problems include:

Oil leakage Cracked or damaged pipework Damaged fittings Restricted oil flow Corrosion Previous incorrect repairs Damage during engine maintenance

Any leak or restriction within the tensioner oil supply should be investigated promptly because reliable oil delivery is essential to the operation of the upgraded tensioners.

When Should It Be Replaced?

Replacement is recommended when installing a hydraulic chain tensioner conversion on a compatible early engine if the required pipe is not already present.

An existing pipe should also be replaced if it shows signs of leakage, corrosion, damaged fittings or physical deterioration.

Fitment

Compatibility should be confirmed against the engine specification and tensioner conversion being installed.

Checks During Installation

When fitting the oil feed pipe, also inspect:

Hydraulic chain tensioners Existing camshaft oil lines Oil line fittings and seals Timing chains Chain guide rails Tensioner arms Chain housing covers Engine oil supply connections

On some pre-1980 applications, spacers may also be required between the tensioner arm and tensioner when carrying out the hydraulic tensioner upgrade.
