The exhaust valve is located in the cylinder head as part of the engine’s valve train. With every combustion cycle, it opens to release exhaust gases and closes again to preserve compression. Built to endure extreme heat, pressure, and constant motion, it plays a vital role in maintaining engine performance, efficiency, and emissions control.  

Over time, exhaust valves can wear or deform due to heat, carbon deposits, or mechanical stress. When they no longer seal properly, exhaust pressure can leak past the valve seat, reducing compression, power, and efficiency. In severe cases, a failing exhaust valve can lead to misfires, rough running, or damage to the cylinder head.

You should consider replacing the exhaust valve if any of the following occur:
•  Loss of engine power, especially at higher RPMs
•  Rough idle or misfires
•  Exhaust smoke or unusual noise from the cylinder head
•  Compression test reveals a weak cylinder
•  When rebuilding or overhauling the engine or cylinder head
•  After excessive heat exposure or in engines with high mileage

Replacing the valve ensures precise fit, proper sealing, and long-term durability — critical for restoring engine performance and preventing further damage.
