A mass airflow sensor is used to determine the mass of air entering an electronically fuel-injected engine. The air mass information is necessary for the engine control unit (ECU) to calculate and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine. Air changes its density as it expands and contracts with temperature and pressure. In automotive applications, air density varies with the ambient temperature and altitude, and this is an ideal application for a mass sensor.

The air mass / flow sensor measures the volume or flow of air entering the engine intake system. This information is used by the engine control system to calculate the correct fuel delivery, helping maintain smooth running, throttle response, fuel economy, and emissions performance.
Functions
• Measures incoming intake air flow
• Sends air flow information to the engine management system
• Supports correct fuel mixture calculation
• Helps maintain smooth idle and throttle response
• Supports reliable engine performance and drivability
• Replaces faulty, worn, contaminated, or failed original air flow sensors
• OE Match replacement for intake and fuel injection system repair.
Why Replace This Part?
Air mass / flow sensors can fail or become inaccurate due to age, contamination, electrical faults, worn internal components, intake leaks, or long-term use. A faulty sensor may cause rough idle, hesitation, poor throttle response, flat spots, increased fuel consumption, emissions faults, difficult starting, or poor running. Replacing the sensor helps restore accurate intake air measurement and correct engine management operation.
When to Replace This Part
• The engine has rough idle, hesitation, or poor throttle response
• Air flow sensor fault codes or mixture faults are present
• Fuel consumption has increased noticeably
• The engine runs too rich or too lean
• Starting or warm-running issues are present
• The sensor is contaminated, damaged, or electrically faulty
• The intake or fuel injection system is being serviced or repaired

MAF Sensor Conversion Kit
Modernise the intake air measurement system of your Porsche with the Rennline MAF Sensor Conversion Kit.
Designed to replace the original Bosch Motronic Air Flow
Meter (AFM), this conversion removes the restrictive mechanical flap-style
airflow meter and replaces it with a modern hot-film Mass Air Flow (MAF)
sensor.
Fits:

With no moving airflow door restricting the intake, the engine can breathe more freely while the ECU receives accurate electronic airflow information throughout the operating range. The result is sharper throttle response, stronger usable power and torque, more efficient engine operation and an approximate 2.5kg weight saving.
Why Replace the Original Bosch AFM?
The original Bosch Motronic system uses a spring-loaded flap connected to a potentiometer to measure incoming air.
Although effective technology for its time, the mechanical flap creates a physical restriction within the intake. At low RPM and partial throttle, when the flap is only slightly open, this restriction can dull throttle response and make the engine feel less responsive.
At wide-open throttle, the limitations of the original AFM also mean the engine management relies on a richer, conservative operating strategy to help protect against knock.
Modern Hot-Film MAF Technology
The Rennline conversion replaces the mechanical AFM with a modern hot-film Mass Air Flow sensor.
Rather than using a moving flap, the MAF measures incoming air electronically. Removing the mechanical restriction allows air to pass more freely through the intake while providing the ECU with accurate airflow data throughout the RPM range.
The system also incorporates full altitude correction, compensating for changes in air density at different elevations.
Key Benefits
- Replaces the original Bosch Motronic AFM
- Modern hot-film MAF technology
- Eliminates the restrictive mechanical airflow flap
- Sharper low-RPM and partial-throttle response
- Stronger usable power and torque
- Accurate airflow measurement throughout the RPM range
- Cleaner and more efficient engine operation
- Full altitude correction for air-density compensation
- Approximately 2.5kg weight saving
- Plug-and-play installation
- No chip tuning required
- No calibration required
Improved Throttle Response
Removing the spring-loaded AFM door eliminates a physical obstruction from the intake system.
This is particularly beneficial at low engine speeds and partial throttle, helping the engine respond more immediately to accelerator input and providing a more engaging driving experience.
Plug-and-Play Installation
Unlike some MAF conversions that require replacement ECU chips, custom mapping or additional modifications, the Rennline x Storch VE system has been developed as a genuine plug-and-play conversion.
No calibration or chip tuning is required, allowing the original airflow measurement system to be modernised without extensive changes to the Bosch Motronic engine management system.
Porsche AFM Upgrade
Original Bosch AFMs are now decades old, and wear to their mechanical components and potentiometer can eventually contribute to inconsistent airflow readings and poor engine operation.
Rather than simply replacing an ageing AFM with another mechanical unit, this conversion introduces modern electronic airflow measurement while reducing intake restriction.
It is an ideal solution for owners searching for a Porsche 944 AFM replacement, Porsche 924S airflow meter upgrade or plug-and-play MAF conversion.
