A Quick Look at OE Match

OE Match information on this page is based on details supplied by the manufacturer or distributor, plus any OE references provided with the parts.

Choosing the Right Fit for Your Porsche

Where OE Match is listed for Porsche, use the supplied model coverage and OE references to confirm suitability. Check details that commonly affect fitment such as model year, side/position, and connector type where relevant.

  • Often chosen when owners want OE-equivalent quality with sensible running costs, especially for routine service and wear items.
  • Typical reasons to replace include restoring reliability, addressing age-related wear, or refreshing multiple components during larger repair work.
  • Common defects from incorrect application include noise, premature wear, leaks, or fitment quirks if the wrong variant is selected or fitted with old seals/hardware.
  • Watch for symptoms such as unusual noises, early wear, or repeat failures after recent work, which can indicate mismatched parts or supporting items left worn.
  • Always cross-check OEM part numbers, read model-year notes, and verify compatibility before ordering.
  • For safety-critical components, confirm specification and fitment carefully and have installation checked by a competent technician.

Browse by Category

If you already know the area you are working on, start with the category and then filter by Porsche model. Where real-world symptoms and typical reasons to replace are provided, use them to keep the wording grounded.

Brakes — Brake components are renewed to restore stopping performance, address wear or upgrade a Porsche for fast road or track use. Common symptoms include vibration under braking, longer stopping distances, squealing, pulling to one side, warning lights and visible wear to discs and pads.

Brake Pad Wear Sensors — Brake pad wear sensors are replaced when pads are renewed or when warning lights indicate a broken or worn sensor. Symptoms include brake wear warnings even with new pads, damaged sensor cables, or broken clips around the caliper area.

Engine Electrical — Engine electrical parts are changed when there are starting, charging, ignition, or sensor-related faults that affect drivability and reliability, such as intermittent no-start, misfires, rough idle, poor charging, warning lights or heat-soak failures.

Service Parts — Service parts are replaced as routine maintenance to keep the engine and systems reliable, efficient, and protected, often resolving hard starting, rough idle, poor fuel economy and warning lights caused by clogged filters or worn ignition components.

Service Kits — Service kits bundle key service components to simplify maintenance and set the car back to a known baseline, especially useful when catching up on overdue servicing or dealing with general sluggish running, inconsistent idle and reduced performance.

  • For brake parts, confirm whether items are OE-equivalent replacements or performance upgrades and check if new fitting kits and sensors are required.
  • On service items and kits, match the kit to your exact Porsche model, engine and year, and review what is included so you can add any extra “while you are there” parts.

The engine coolant thermostat is a small but essential component that regulates coolant flow through your engine. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed to restrict coolant circulation, allowing the engine to reach its optimal operating temperature more quickly. Once the desired temperature is achieved, it opens to maintain consistent cooling and prevent overheating.   Products ref no. 9A712111000 which supersedes from old part numbers 9A110622602 & 9A110622603

Installation Tip: Always position the thermostat’s jiggle pin (bleed valve) at the 12 o’clock position when possible, to ensure proper air bleeding.

Thermostat Temperature Ratings

Many vehicles offer thermostats with different temperature ratings. These ratings indicate the temperature at which the thermostat begins to open.

In colder climates, a higher temperature thermostat helps the engine maintain warmth. In hot desert climates, a lower temperature thermostat may be preferred to enhance cooling efficiency.

Common Thermostat Failures

Thermostat Stuck Open (Most Common) The thermostat fails to close, causing continuous coolant flow even when the engine is cold. This prevents the engine from reaching normal operating temperature, often leading to poor fuel economy, rich air-fuel mixtures, and potential catalytic converter damage. Thermostat Stuck Closed The thermostat fails to open, restricting coolant flow through the engine. This results in overheating and may cause severe or even catastrophic engine damage.

Signs of a Failing Engine Coolant Thermostat

Engine overheating Engine not reaching optimal operating temperature Radiator fan not engaging properly

This is an electric air pump that forms the heart of the Porsche secondary air injection (SAI) system. In OE Match form, it’s manufactured to replicate the OE housing shape, mounting points, and electrical characteristics so it installs as a direct replacement when the original pump becomes noisy, weak, or fails.

On cold start, the pump pushes fresh air into the exhaust stream (via the SAI system valves and pipework). This helps the catalytic converters warm up faster and reduces cold-start emissions - supporting smooth compliance with the vehicle’s emissions strategy.

A failing secondary air pump can trigger emissions warnings and drivability annoyances (MIL/check engine light) because the ECU may detect insufficient secondary air flow during cold start. Replacing the pump restores proper SAI operation and helps keep emissions functions working as intended.

When to replace:
• Check engine light / emissions-related fault codes linked to secondary air flow
Pump runs loudly, squeals, or sounds rough on cold start
Pump not running during cold start when commanded
Water ingress/corrosion damage or seized pump motor
Preventative replacement during secondary air system service

Flywheel Ring Gear – Hardened Steel (OEM 964.114.143.31). This precision-machined hardened steel ring gear features starter-pinion teeth pressed onto the outer edge of a single-mass “RS” or lightweight flywheel. It’s the critical interface between the starter motor and the engine — the starter’s small pinion engages these teeth to crank the engine during start-up.

Technical Summary

  • Function: Transfers starter motor rotation to the flywheel for engine cranking.
  • Location: Pressed or shrink-fitted onto the outer diameter of the flywheel.
  • Construction: Heat-treated, hardened steel with precision-machined teeth for maximum strength and wear resistance.
  • OEM Part Number: 964.114.143.31 (also listed as 96411414331).
  • Applications: Designed for RS, single-mass, or lightweight flywheels used in various Porsche 964 and 993 models, and select 996/997 GT3 and GT2 variants. Not compatible with dual-mass flywheels.

Fits:
  • Porsche 964 (911) RS 3.6L 1991-93
  • Porsche 964 (911) RS 3.8L 1991-93
  • Porsche 993 (911) RS 1994-97

Why You Should Replace Your Ring Gear

1. Damaged or Missing Teeth

Grinding, rough engagement, or failed starts often result from chipped, flattened, or missing teeth on the ring gear. When the teeth are damaged, the starter pinion can’t engage properly, leading to grinding or slipping during start-up.

2. Wear, Pitting, or Corrosion

Over time, surface wear, rust, or pitting can develop due to age or moisture exposure. These issues reduce engagement quality and increase wear on both the starter and ring gear.

3. Loose or Shifted Ring Gear

Although ring gears are press-fitted, heat cycles or improper installation can cause them to loosen or shift. A loose ring gear creates noise, accelerates wear, and poses a potential safety hazard.

4. During Flywheel or Clutch Service

Whenever the flywheel is removed for clutch replacement or resurfacing, it’s best practice to inspect the ring gear closely. Replace it if you find any damage or wear—it’s far cheaper than removing the transmission again later.

5. Starter or Pinion Replacement or Upgrades

If you’re installing a new or upgraded starter—or have had a starter failure that damaged the pinion—inspect and replace the ring gear at the same time to ensure proper engagement and reliable operation.

Wiper blade front, SET OF 2 wiper blades
This is a set of two blades, designed to replace both front wipers simultaneously, ensuring matched performance and wear. These blades replicate the original Porsche blade geometry, mounting interface for an authentic fit and finish.

Fits:
Porsche 911 1971 - 1977
Porsche 930 (911 Turbo) 1975 - 1977
Porsche 914 1970 - 1976
Porsche 964

This is a premium wiper-blade pair engineered for the front windshield. The blades provide consistent, streak-free wiping, proper contact across the windshield curvature, and correct fitment with the Porsche wiper arm mounting system.

Over time, wiper blades decline due to UV exposure, rubber degradation, wear and climate. A worn blade can cause streaking, reduced visibility in rain, noise or even scratching of the windshield.

Replace your blades when:
You notice streaks or smears during wiping
The rubber edge appears cracked, hard or uneven
You’re preparing your Porsche for rainy or winter seasons

Installing a matched set of OE Match blades ensures both sides wipe evenly, improves driver visibility and maintains the aesthetic integrity of your classic Porsche.
