A Quick Look at OE Match

OE Match information on this page is based on details supplied by the manufacturer or distributor, plus any OE references provided with the parts.

Choosing the Right Fit for Your Porsche

Where OE Match is listed for Porsche, use the supplied model coverage and OE references to confirm suitability. Check details that commonly affect fitment such as model year, side/position, and connector type where relevant.

  • Often chosen when owners want OE-equivalent quality with sensible running costs, especially for routine service and wear items.
  • Typical reasons to replace include restoring reliability, addressing age-related wear, or refreshing multiple components during larger repair work.
  • Common defects from incorrect application include noise, premature wear, leaks, or fitment quirks if the wrong variant is selected or fitted with old seals/hardware.
  • Watch for symptoms such as unusual noises, early wear, or repeat failures after recent work, which can indicate mismatched parts or supporting items left worn.
  • Always cross-check OEM part numbers, read model-year notes, and verify compatibility before ordering.
  • For safety-critical components, confirm specification and fitment carefully and have installation checked by a competent technician.

Browse by Category

If you already know the area you are working on, start with the category and then filter by Porsche model. Where real-world symptoms and typical reasons to replace are provided, use them to keep the wording grounded.

Brakes — Brake components are renewed to restore stopping performance, address wear or upgrade a Porsche for fast road or track use. Common symptoms include vibration under braking, longer stopping distances, squealing, pulling to one side, warning lights and visible wear to discs and pads.

Brake Pad Wear Sensors — Brake pad wear sensors are replaced when pads are renewed or when warning lights indicate a broken or worn sensor. Symptoms include brake wear warnings even with new pads, damaged sensor cables, or broken clips around the caliper area.

Engine Electrical — Engine electrical parts are changed when there are starting, charging, ignition, or sensor-related faults that affect drivability and reliability, such as intermittent no-start, misfires, rough idle, poor charging, warning lights or heat-soak failures.

Service Parts — Service parts are replaced as routine maintenance to keep the engine and systems reliable, efficient, and protected, often resolving hard starting, rough idle, poor fuel economy and warning lights caused by clogged filters or worn ignition components.

Service Kits — Service kits bundle key service components to simplify maintenance and set the car back to a known baseline, especially useful when catching up on overdue servicing or dealing with general sluggish running, inconsistent idle and reduced performance.

  • For brake parts, confirm whether items are OE-equivalent replacements or performance upgrades and check if new fitting kits and sensors are required.
  • On service items and kits, match the kit to your exact Porsche model, engine and year, and review what is included so you can add any extra “while you are there” parts.

Wishbone ball joint front - cotter pin.
Ball joint lock pin is an suspension fastener designed to secure the front lower ball joint to the strut or wishbone assembly on classic Porsche models. It installs into the ball joint mount to secure the connection between suspension links and steering knuckles. It’s suitable for maintenance, rebuilds, or restoration of front suspension components and fits directly without modification.
Sold each, Fits left and right.

Fits:
Porsche 911 1969 - 1989
Porsche 914 1972 - 1976

Diagram ref no 20

The lock pin provides a secure fastening point that holds the front lower ball joint in place, ensuring the suspension components remain correctly aligned under load and motion. It helps transmit steering forces while keeping the joint assembly stable during driving.

Installed through the ball joint and suspension link interface, this pin maintains clamping and positional integrity, aiding the suspension’s ability to articulate smoothly while resisting unwanted movement. It works in conjunction with the control arm and steering knuckle to support safe, responsive handling.

Front suspension hardware like the ball joint lock pin can wear, corrode, or lose clamping strength over time, which may lead to play in the suspension, uneven tyre wear, and compromised steering feel. Replacing worn or damaged pins with OE Match parts helps maintain precise suspension geometry and consistent handling characteristics.

When to replace:
•  Ball joint pin is corroded, bent, or worn
Loose or sloppy front suspension feel
During ball joint, control arm, or strut service
  Restoration of classic suspension systems
After removal or disassembly of front suspension

The steering rack controls the front wheels by means of two track rods, terminated by replaceable joints - the "Track Rod Ends", attached to the swivel hubs. These will eventually wear, leading to problems with steering and handling, as well as being a failure point on the UK MOT and presumably on the statutory inspections in other countries.

Why Replace It, Engine mounts are crucial for:

  • Locating and supporting the engine
  • Absorbing vibration and engine torque under acceleration, braking, and cornering
  • When this mount deteriorates or fails, you can expect, Increased vibration transmitted to the cabin, steering, or pedals
  • Clunks, bangs, or loud noises during acceleration, deceleration, or gear changes from engine movement against the chassis
  • Visual signs such as leaking black fluid from the mount, sagging of tailpipes (due to dropped mounting), or visible damage to rubber or metal components

Common Failure Causes

  • Age-related rubber degradation: over time, rubber hardens, cracks or de-bonds, causing loss of damping and allowing engine movement
  • Fluid leakage (hydraulic version): loss of damping fluid due to seal failure accelerates failure
  • Fluid contamination: oil, coolant, or other contaminants degrade the rubber material
  • Vehicle abuse or stress: aggressive driving, hard launches, or previous accidents can warp or break mounts
  • Worn or cracked brackets: even if the rubber is intact, the aluminium bracket can be damaged or corroded, reducing effectiveness

Product Information
Product Information
Engine mount Part number 987.375.023.05 (often written 98737502305) is the centre engine mount / mount insulator used on mid-engine Porsche Boxster/Cayman models, commonly fitted to late 986 and 987 Boxster / early 987 Cayman applications. The item is offered both as the complete mount and bracket assembly and as a replacement bushing/insulator that must be pressed into the aluminium bracket.

Position: center engine mount (the central mount that locates the engine fore/aft and resists torque).

oematch

Fits:
  • Porsche Boxster 986 2.5L 1997-99
  • Porsche Boxster 986 2.7L 1999-02
  • Porsche Boxster S 986 3.2L 1999-02
  • Porsche Boxster 986 2.7L 2003-04
  • Porsche Boxster S 986 3.2L 2003-04
  • Porsche Boxster 987 2.7L 2005 -08/08
  • Porsche Boxster 987 S 3.2/3.4L 2005-08/08
  • Porsche Cayman 2.7L 987C 2006-08
  • Porsche Cayman S 3.4L 987C 2005-08

Replace the part when it has lost its ability to control engine movement and damp vibration. Typical triggers to replace the centre mount include:

  • Hard clunk or bang on acceleration, deceleration or gear changes (engine shifting against chassis).
  • Excessive vibration into the cabin, especially at idle or specific RPM bands.
  • Visible damage — torn, separated rubber, oil-soaked or collapsed mount/bushing, or corrosion of mating faces.

Common issues & failure causes

  • Rubber deterioration: age, heat cycling and mechanical fatigue cause the rubber to harden, crack or de-bond from the metal, reducing isolation and allowing increased engine movement.
  • Fluid contamination: oil or coolant leaks accelerate rubber breakdown (softening or swelling), commonly seen on older engines where leaks occur.
  • Mechanical shock / abuse: repeated hard launches, aggressive shifting or collisions can cause sudden mount failure or promote early fatigue.
  • Bracket wear / corrosion: the bushing may be fine, but the aluminium bracket can crack, corrode, or the bushing may need pressing into a worn bracket — which is why some techs prefer replacing the full assembly.
