Also known as a door stay, door limiter or door check, this component prevents the door from swinging freely through its full range of movement. When functioning correctly, it provides resistance as the door opens and helps keep the door stationary at designated positions, making entry and exit easier and reducing uncontrolled movement.

• The door check strap provides controlled movement every time the door is opened. When it becomes worn or damaged, the door may swing freely and become difficult to control, particularly on an incline or in windy conditions.
• An uncontrolled door can open suddenly and strike nearby vehicles, walls or other objects, potentially damaging the door edge, paintwork or surrounding property. Excessive opening travel can also place additional stress on the hinges, wiring, seals and other components passing between the door and body.
• A worn check mechanism can also create persistent clicking or clunking noises. If the mounting points become loose, continued operation may enlarge or damage the mounting area, potentially making the eventual repair more involved.
• A seized or binding check strap presents a different problem. Excessive resistance can place unnecessary load on the door structure and mounting points each time the door is operated.

The thrust wedge works inside the door window and door shell / door surround area to help ensure the window glass is properly aligned within its track and that the window doesn’t vibrate, rattle, or shift within the door frame.

Symptoms / Signs It Needs Replacing:
