The exterior temperature sensor is positioned where it can monitor outside air temperature while minimising the influence of heat generated by the engine and other vehicle components. Its readings can be used to provide the driver with an outside temperature indication and, depending on the vehicle specification, may also be referenced by other temperature-dependent systems.

Over time, exposure to water, road dirt, temperature extremes and vibration can cause the sensor or its electrical connections to deteriorate. A faulty sensor may display an incorrect outside temperature, produce intermittent readings or stop providing temperature information altogether.

This OE Match Exterior Temperature Sensor provides a high-quality replacement for a failed, damaged or inaccurate original sensor, helping restore dependable ambient temperature measurement.

What This Product Does:

  • Measures ambient temperature outside the vehicle.
  • Converts outside temperature into an electrical signal.
  • Provides temperature information to the relevant vehicle system
  • Supports accurate outside temperature display where fitted.
  • Helps the driver monitor changing external conditions.
  • May provide temperature information to associated vehicle systems where applicable.
  • Responds to changes in surrounding air temperature.
  • Replaces an inaccurate, damaged or failed exterior temperature sensor.
  • Helps eliminate implausible or intermittent outside temperature readings.
  • Provides an OE-style replacement for compatible Porsche applications.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • Outside temperature display showing an obviously incorrect reading.
  • Temperature displayed significantly higher or lower than actual conditions.
  • Exterior temperature reading stuck at one value.
  • Display failing to respond as outside temperature changes.
  • Intermittent or fluctuating temperature readings.
  • Outside temperature display disappearing completely.
  • Implausibly high or low readings.
  • Temperature-related warning behaving incorrectly where applicable.
  • Sensor-related diagnostic fault codes.
  • Visible damage to the sensor.
  • Corroded or contaminated electrical connections.
  • Broken or damaged sensor wiring.
  • Physical damage caused by road debris or previous repairs.

Why Replacement Matters:
  • An exterior temperature sensor provides useful information about the conditions surrounding the vehicle. An inaccurate sensor can make the displayed temperature misleading and reduce the driver's ability to recognise potentially cold or changing road conditions.
  • Where the vehicle provides a low-temperature or frost warning, an incorrect sensor reading may cause the warning to appear at the wrong time or prevent it from operating as expected.
  • Depending on vehicle specification, ambient temperature information may also be referenced by other electronic systems. An implausible sensor signal can therefore potentially affect functions beyond the temperature display itself.
  • Sensor problems are often caused by age, corrosion or physical damage. Because the sensor is exposed to external conditions, its wiring and connector can also deteriorate over time.
  • Replacing a defective component with this OE Match Exterior Temperature Sensor helps restore accurate ambient temperature information and dependable operation of systems that use the exterior temperature signal.

About Temperature Sensors / Switches

Porsche Temperature Sensors & Switches - Accurate Climate & System Control

Porsche temperature sensors and switches play a vital role in monitoring and regulating heating, air conditioning, and engine-related temperature systems. By continuously measuring temperature and sending accurate data to control units, these components ensure efficient cabin climate control, system protection, and reliable vehicle operation.

Available from Design911, temperature sensors and switches are supplied to OEM standards, making them ideal for maintenance, fault repair, and restoring proper HVAC system performance.

What Do Porsche Temperature Sensors & Switches Do?

Temperature sensors and switches provide real-time temperature data and system protection.

Core Functions:

  • Monitor cabin, evaporator, and coolant temperatures
  • Regulate heating and air conditioning output
  • Trigger cooling fans or system protection responses
  • Prevent system overheating or freezing
  • Ensure consistent passenger comfort

Accurate sensor readings are essential for efficient climate control and system longevity.

Why Do Temperature Sensors & Switches Fail?

Temperature sensors operate in environments exposed to heat, moisture, and electrical load.

Common Causes of Failure:

  • Sensor degradation due to age and heat cycling
  • Electrical faults or wiring corrosion
  • Moisture ingress affecting sensor accuracy
  • Internal switch wear or sticking
  • Contamination from dust or debris

Failure can lead to incorrect temperature readings, poor climate performance, or warning lights.

When Should Temperature Sensors & Switches Be Replaced?

Porsche temperature sensors and switches should be inspected and replaced if the following symptoms occur:

  • Inconsistent or incorrect cabin temperature
  • HVAC system not responding correctly
  • Air conditioning cutting out or overcooling
  • Fault codes related to temperature regulation
  • During HVAC system servicing or repairs

Timely replacement restores accurate system control and passenger comfort.
