Crankshaft Position Sensor, Cylinder 6-10.

Restore accurate engine speed and crankshaft position monitoring with this OE Match Crankshaft Position Sensor, specified for the cylinders 6–10 application on compatible Porsche engines.

Fits:
  • Porsche Carrera GT 2003-06

Diagram Ref No 40

The crankshaft position sensor is a critical engine-management component. It monitors the rotational position and speed of the crankshaft and sends this information to the engine control unit (ECU). The ECU uses this signal to coordinate essential functions such as ignition timing and fuel injection.

Accurate crankshaft position information allows the engine management system to determine precisely where the engine is within its operating cycle. If the sensor signal becomes weak, intermittent or disappears completely, the ECU may be unable to control ignition and injection correctly. This can lead to difficult starting, misfires, poor running or a complete no-start condition.

Electrical sensors can deteriorate through age, repeated heat cycles, vibration, damaged wiring or connector problems. Some failures can also be temperature-related, with the sensor working correctly when cold but becoming unreliable once the engine reaches operating temperature.

This OE Match Crankshaft Position Sensor provides a high-quality replacement for a faulty or damaged sensor, helping restore accurate engine timing information and dependable engine-management operation.

What This Product Does:

  • Monitors crankshaft rotational position.
  • Measures crankshaft speed or engine RPM.
  • Sends crankshaft position information to the ECU.
  • Helps the ECU determine correct engine timing.
  • Supports accurate ignition control.
  • Supports correctly timed fuel injection.
  • Helps maintain smooth and consistent engine operation.
  • Provides essential information during engine starting.
  • Supports accurate engine-management diagnostics.
  • Helps maintain reliable performance across changing engine speeds and loads.
  • Replaces an intermittent, damaged or failed sensor.
  • Is specified for the applicable cylinders 6–10 position/application.

Symptoms Of Wear Or Failure:
  • Engine cranks but does not start.
  • Intermittent starting problems.
  • Extended cranking before the engine starts.
  • Engine unexpectedly cutting out.
  • Engine stalling when hot.
  • Engine restarting after it has cooled down.
  • Intermittent loss of engine power.
  • Rough or inconsistent engine operation.
  • Engine misfires.
  • Hesitation during acceleration.
  • Check engine or engine-management warning light.
  • Crankshaft position sensor-related diagnostic fault codes.
  • Engine speed signal disappearing during diagnostic testing.
  • Tachometer or RPM information behaving abnormally where applicable.
  • Damaged sensor wiring or electrical connector.
  • Heat-related intermittent sensor failure.

Why Replacement Matters:
  • A sensor that fails completely can potentially prevent the engine from starting. An intermittent sensor can be more difficult to diagnose because the vehicle may operate normally before suddenly stalling or refusing to restart.
  • Heat-related deterioration is particularly troublesome. A failing sensor may work when the engine is cold but lose its signal as temperatures rise, potentially causing the engine to cut out during operation.
  • An inaccurate or unstable signal can also contribute to misfires, poor performance and engine-management warning lights.
  • Because crankshaft position information is directly related to ignition and injection control, unresolved sensor faults can compromise overall engine reliability and may leave the vehicle unable to start.
  • Replacing a defective component with this OE Match Crankshaft Position Sensor helps restore accurate engine speed and position information, dependable starting and correct engine-management operation.

About Speed / Reference / Knock Sensors

Speed, Reference & Knock Sensors – Precision Monitoring for Porsche Engine Performance

Speed, reference, and knock sensors are crucial components in your Porsche’s engine management system. They work together to provide the engine control unit (ECU) with accurate data about crankshaft position, engine speed, and vibration — allowing the system to adjust timing, fueling, and ignition for maximum performance and protection.

At Design911, we supply a comprehensive selection of genuine and high-quality sensors for all Porsche Models, including 911, Boxster, Cayman, Cayenne, Macan, and Panamera. Each sensor is engineered for precise signal output, reliability, and durability, ensuring consistent performance and optimal engine operation.

What Do Speed, Reference & Knock Sensors Do?

These sensors play distinct yet complementary roles in your Porsche’s electronic control system:

  • Speed Sensors: Measure rotational speed of the wheels or crankshaft to optimise traction, stability, and engine timing.
  • Reference Sensors: Provide accurate engine position data to control ignition timing and fuel injection.
  • Knock Sensors: Detect engine detonation (pinging) and send signals to the ECU to adjust ignition timing, preventing engine damage.

Together, they ensure your Porsche runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely under all driving conditions.

Why Do These Sensors Fail?

Due to exposure to heat, vibration, and contamination, these sensors can degrade over time. Common causes of failure include:

  • Heat damage from proximity to engine or exhaust components.
  • Wiring corrosion or connector oxidation reducing signal accuracy.
  • Mechanical wear on sensor tips or mounting points.
  • Contamination from oil, dirt, or debris interfering with readings.
  • Electrical interference or internal circuitry failure.

Typical symptoms of sensor failure include poor acceleration, engine misfires, erratic idle, loss of power, increased fuel consumption, or a check engine light.

Why Replace Faulty Sensors?

A failing sensor can lead to poor performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and even engine damage if left unchecked. Replacing worn or damaged sensors ensures the ECU receives accurate data, maintaining safe and efficient operation.

Benefits of replacement include:

  • Restored ignition timing and fuel efficiency.
  • Improved throttle response and smooth acceleration.
  • Protection against detonation and engine wear.
  • Reliable performance with manufacturer-quality precision.

All sensors in our range are designed with high-quality materials, advanced shielding, and precision calibration to deliver consistent readings and long-term reliability in demanding conditions.
